MHP Adıyaman milletvekilliği adaylığı için başvuruda bulunan adaylığına ve kazanmasına dahi kesin gözüyle bakılan Çakır’ın son anda MHP’nin açıkladığı listede kendine yer bulamaması parti içinde ve parti dışında çeşitli tartışmalara yol açtı.
Selim Çakır bugün kendisini destekleyen partililer ve vatandaşlarla beraber bağımsız milletvekilliği başvurusunda bulunmak için il seçim kuruluna gitti.
Başvurusunu kendisini destekleyenlerle beraber gerçekleştiren Çakır yaptığı basın açıklamasında “Biz Adıyaman’a bir söz verdik bu sözü tutmak için vatandaşımıza sahip çıkmak için çalışmalarımızı sürdüreceğiz, ben milliyetçi bir insanım ben vatansever bir insanım milletim vatanım ve şehrim için bir şeyler yapmayı sürdüreceğim biz istersek hiçbir şey imkansız değildir “ifadelerini kullandı.
